    Brief Ship History
: This 10,463-ton Port line passenger-freighter was built by
    Harland and Wolff
in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1958. In 1966, together with the Blue Star Line, Ben Line, Charente Steamship Co., and Ellerman & Bucknall, Port Line formed a new company - ACT (Associated Container Transportation Ltd), of which this ship was a mainstay.
    In June 1967, PORT INVERCARGILL
was one of 15 ships trapped in the Suez Canal
    by the outbreak of the
    6-Day War
in the Middle East.  On 19 Feb 1969, she was declared a
    constructive loss
by her Insurers, and two years later, all ships trapped in the Suez Canal by the war were
    abandoned
. On 30 May 1975, PORT INVERCARGILL was towed to Port Said, Egypt for examination, and sold to Defteron Corporation, a Greek company. She was renamed KAVO KOLONES, towed to Piraeus, Greece, and put back in service. She was scrapped at Taiwan in August 1979.
